About

Lake Sylvia Suzuki Institute is a weeklong summer course for flutists of all ages and abilities. Our program nurtures excellence in character through excellence in music and celebrates the joy and fun that music brings to our lives. These principles are the foundation of the worldwide Suzuki community, continuing the legacy of Japanese violinist and master teacher Shinichi Suzuki.

Our lakeside retreat brings out the focus, connection, inspiration, and touch of wildness that music needs to come to life. What results is the perfect blend of a traditional summer camp with high-quality instruction and opportunities. Campers return year after year to connect with friends from past years and make new ones, learn from some of the nation's top teachers by day and debate marshmallow roasting technique with them at night, and play Lightly Row duets before taking a canoe around the lake.

Our programs are designed to include everyone. Flutists ages 3-17 participate in our Suzuki-style program, with group classes, masterclasses, art,

small ensembles, and more. Adult players can join a more relaxed course of study, with ensemble playing, tone and technique, private lessons, and plenty of time to practice or explore the lake and trails. Teacher training is available in both flute and recorder. Books offered vary by year and according to interest. Families are also welcome and encouraged to attend any of our programs.
